Ethical Magic Sliders using Piñatex

Increased demand for the Ethical Magic Slides , our vegan eco-sandals , made us look for alternative materials to explore as a substitute for the inner tubes -used till now- for the upper part of our sandals. We found this substitute in Piñatex , an innovative natural textile made from waste pineapple leaf fibre. Piñatex® is a natural, sustainably-sourced, cruelty free material made from a natural waste product, created with low water use and low production waste and containing no harmful chemicals or animal products (PETA approved).

The whole journey of production is inspired by the principles of a Circular Economy and Cradle to Cradle values. Piñatex® is made from the leaves of the pineapple plant, the byproduct of the fruit industry, which are traditionally discarded or burned. Adding value to this waste has also created a new source of income for farming communities who otherwise rely on a seasonal harvest. Once the fibre has been stripped from the leaf, the leftover biomass can be retained to use as a natural fertilizer or bio-fuel, offering a further environmental prospect.
